7th International Workshop on Streptococcus suis (7th IWSs) is coming.
Over the past several decades, research on Streptococcus suis has made substantial progress, from the characterization of capsular serotypes and virulence determinants to major advances in our understanding of pathogenesis, host immune responses, and genomic epidemiology. As a result, our knowledge of this important zoonotic pathogen is more comprehensive than ever. Nevertheless, effective control of S. suis infections remains an unresolved global challenge, particularly in intensive swine production systems, where outbreaks continue to cause major economic losses, and in human health, where sporadic but severe cases persist worldwide.
This continuing gap between scientific insight and real-world impact underscores the need for a strategic shift toward coordinated, evidence-based control frameworks that integrate multiple approaches, including (but not limited to) surveillance, vaccination, and therapeutics.
We are pleased to invite you to the 7th International Workshop on Streptococcus suis, to be held in Wuhan, China, on 7–8th May 2027. The workshop will focus on the theme: “Strategic Control of S. suis Infections: Integrating Surveillance, Vaccination, and Therapeutics.” Key scientific themes include:
1. Genomic Surveillance and Molecular Epidemiology
2. Pathogenesis and Host-Pathogen Interactions
3. Vaccine Development and Immunization Strategies
4. Antimicrobial Resistance and Effective Therapeutics
5. One Health and Integrated Control Strategies
6. Emerging Technologies and Future Directions
Whether you are a long-standing S. suis researcher or new to the field, this workshop will provide a valuable platform to share insights, build collaborations, and help shape the future of S. suis control.
We look forward to welcoming you to the historic and vibrant city of Wuhan in 2027.
Best wishes,
Chairs of the 7th International Workshop on Streptococcus suis
